pregnancy advice for new female recently diagnosed with psc

Hi, I was diagnosed with psc last January. I'm  25 year old female who had planned on having a family with my husband. one of my consultants seemed fine with the idea and any blockage stints can be changed. however another consultant was totally against it, saying I should wait until after a transplant which he had no time span on, as at the moment I'm not sick enough to be on a list... basically my question to the psc support forum is has any other fellow members with psc had chrildren and if so were there any complications or health issues to be concerned with? As this issue is very cloudy at the moment and any advise would be much appreciated.

Hi Guys,

Hi Guys,
Thanks a million for your help. I have read a lot of information which can get quiet confusing, along with the mixed opinions of my specialists, which hasn't clarified matters. I was trying to find other people who have maybe gone through a pregnancy with PSC.
I have joined the facebook group and found a few posts that provided some hope.
Thanks again
Avril

Hi Avril,

Hi Avril,
I am 42. I had a baby in November 2011. I was  diagnosed with gallstones during the pregnancy and had episodes of pain in liver area and high LFT during routine blood tests. I had a specialist Obs and was well cared for. I had an ERCP at about 27 weeks with the hope of investigating further or stenting. That was not possible and I wasn't diagnosed with PSC until March this year, I had horrendous itching whilst pregnant and was only treated with Questran light. Did little to halt itch. I am now on something else for it. I think the hormones can trigger things but it depends on your condition at the moment. I feel lucky to be in London as care is awesome.
I did have several episodes of what I now believe were cholangits during pregnancy but due to being pregnant couldn't have all the scans I had post delivery. I am now on transplant list due to number of cholangitis attackes and stays in hosptial.
I am happy to talk via phone if you wish.

Hi Avril

I see it has been a few months since you original post but thought I would tell you my experience so far as it may help you.
i have UC for about 10 years now and was diagnosed with psc about 1 1/2 years ago althought my liver test were off for a few years prior to this.
i have a 5 year old and had no trouble with that pregnancy, when I asked mid last year my gastro specialist said if I wanted to have another child to do it now as it is only going to get worse over time which I can see the sense in.so we started trying, I had a miscarriage in June last year at 8 weeks which I don't think have anything to do with the UC or psc just chromosome related I think, any way I am now 11 weeks pregnant the first 6-7 weeks where ok then about week 8 is started to get really itchy specially in the night,I am scratching pieces of skin off in my sleep mostly my feet hand and legs and a little on my arms. I have been very tired as well but I think this is pretty normal in the first few weeks of pregnancy. My blood test at 6 weeks pregnant was quite a lot worse that the most recent one I had prior to getting pregnant
I work 3 days a week at present but doubt I will be able to do this much past 25 weeks pregnant,I think it would really depend on your lifestyle, are you able to stop working? And how much street do you have in your life?
Hope this helps
