Chief Medical Officer acknowledges multiple causes of liver disease and need to reduce stigma
Advocating for PSC-related issues is part of our raison d’être. Therefore PSC Support was pleased to receive a positive response from Professor Dame Sally Davies, Chief Medical Officer, to our call for a more holistic approach when describing liver health.
She confirmed that she felt it was important that the focus of her first annual report be on helping people make lifestyle changes that will reduce the possibility of developing liver disease.
However, she acknowledged that ‘not all liver disease is caused by lifestyle factors and that there is a need to achieve a balance between promoting healthy lifestyle choices and avoiding stigmatising those who are affected by liver disease with other causes’.
We are delighted that our voice has been heard and our concerns acknowledged.
