Find a PSC Specialist

When you have PSC, we recommend that you are seen at a PSC Clinic, but they are few and far between, or by a specialist with an interest in PSC. Since 2009, you have had the right to choose which hospital you’re referred to by your GP for tests and treatment.

If you are seen by a consultant practising at a PSC Clinic, you are being seen by a clinician who has seen hundreds of PSCers presenting with the many varying symptoms. This not only increases the likelihood that your clinician will have had experience of dealing with symptoms similar to yours, but this also helps build up a more comprehensive picture of what PSC is to the specialists at the clinics.

Under the terms of the NHS Constitution you have the right to choose in which hospital you receive your treatment. This legal right, which was introduced in April 2009, lets you choose from any hospital offering a suitable treatment that meets NHS standards and costs.  PSC Clinics are keen to accept PSC patients. All you need to do is ask your GP to refer you to the hospital. Find a Specialist.

Of course, we do not all live near PSC Clinics, and it is not practical to travel for hours for each consultation. Some members receive excellent care at their local hospital from gastroenterologists who are in regular contact with PSC Specialists or who may share the care with the specialist clinic.

Information about Specialist PSC Clinics

It is important that you are able to make informed choices about your clinical care, and with this in mind we've asked PSC specialist centres to tell us about the services they offer to PSC patients.

So far we have comprehensive information from two clinics:

Birmingham Clinical PSC Programme

Royal Free PSC Service

Named PSC Specialists

We have updated our list of specialists with an interest in PSC  to help you make an informed decision about the hospital you choose. The information was established through personal contact with the doctors listed, who have kindly agreed to allow us to publish their details.

If you are a hepatologist with an interest in PSC, and should be included on our list, please contact us.
