Opt-out organ donation system approved

Lets talk about organ donation

Organ donation law is changing in Scotland and England

In their first major vote on the issue, the Scottish Parliament today approved the general principles of the Human Tissue (Authorisation) (Scotland) Bill by 107 votes to one. Furthermore, the equivalent English legislation passed its final hurdle in Parliament. The legislation will be called Max’s and Keira’s Law, after heart recipient Max Johnson and his donor, Keira Ball. PSC Support submitted evidence to the consultation that took place two years ago while this law was being considered.

People will be encouraged to register their consent for organ donation, or to opt out. It will still be open to relatives to block a donation, so it will be important that families discuss their wishes.

Please all start the conversation with your friends and family so that everyone is clear about what you want. Read more about PSC and organ donation, and what we think.
